The BIGGEST Balance Changes Yet (1.16.18)

Today, January 16, 2028, Brawl Stars got the biggest balance changes in the game’s history. 16 Brawlers were affected, and the meta has surely changed for it. Let’s dive right in!

Brawler Balance

Colt

  • Decreased main attack range from 10 > 9
  • Star Power speed increased changed from 100 > 50

Colt was one of the most powerful Brawlers in the game, mainly because of his long-range and mobility. Nerfing these two stats will make Colt a balanced Brawler that can still be used, but won’t be as effective as he used to be.

Darryl

  • Image result for brawl stars darrylIncreased health from 4600 > 5000
  • Increased main attack damage per shell from 320 > 360

According to Supercell, Darryl was not being used in the high-trophy games and was also weak compared to Bull or Primo. Increasing his health and damage will surely make him feel like a tank.

img_5777Bo

  • Increased health from 3200 > 3600

This health buff should emphasize his role as a ranged mini-Tank.

Dynamike

  • Increased main attack damage per dynamite from 720 > 800

Being underused by Barley, this buff should help players choose Dynamike over Barley.

img_5774El Primo

  • Increased health from 5800 > 6000

Supercell stated that this health buff should compensate for his short range and emphasize his role as the Brawler with the most health.

img_0245Jessie

  • Increased health from 2800 > 3200
  • Increased Star Power healing from 600 > 800

Jessie was by far the weakest Brawler alongside Poco, so this nice buff should really make her more viable, especially when Scrappy is up on the map.

img_5778Nita

  • Increased health from 3400 > 3800
  • Increased Star Power healing from 200 > 300
  • Increased Bear speed from 500 > 550

Nita’s short range and low health made her a bit too weak. These changes should allow her to be played more aggressively.

portrait_pocoPoco

  • Decreased reload time from 2.0 > 1.8 seconds
  • Increased Star Power healing from 200 > 300

One of the biggest problems with Poco was his reload time. Hopefully, the reload time decreased and the increased healing can make Poco a more viable Brawler, but that doesn’t seem likely.

img_5776Spike

  • Decreased reload time from 2.2 > 2.0 seconds

This reload time buff should help compensate for Spike’s shorter range and low health compared to other Brawlers and should make him feel more like a legendary Brawler.

img_0581Bull

  • Decreased health from 5400 > 5200
  • Star Power now triggers at 40% health (from 50%)

This decreased stats should balance Bull out and make him less overpowered.

img_5489Ricochet

  • Reduced health from 2800 > 2400

This health decrease should now compensate Ricochet’s huge range and damage potential.

  • Reduced Healing Station’s heal per second from 360 > 320
  • Decreased Healing Station’s health from 3600 > 2800
  • Increased health from 4000 > 4200
  • Amount of bullets in each attack changed from 11 > 9 which will make the attack quicker
  • Decreased reload speed from 1.6 > 1.2 seconds

Pam was nearly unstoppable in Smash and Grab, mainly because of her healing station and how it helped a team to quickly take over the mine. The nerfs to the healing station should make her a bit easier to deal with, and the buffs should allow her to fire more often and adapt quickly.

img_5775Mortis

  • Increased health from 2800 > 3200
  • Increased damage from 640 > 800
  • Increased speed from 650 > 700
  • Reduced main attack range from 3 > 2.33 tiles

Although this might seem like a huge buff, it really balances the character out so he’s less effective in Brawl Ball (as he was godly), and so that he is effective in the other game modes.

Barley

Barley_Portrait

  • Decreased main attack projectile fly speed by 15%
  • Increased Star Power healing from 100 > 200

Barley had a very easy time hitting nearby enemies due to his bottles immediately exploding on contact (compared to Dynamike’s fuse). This should make him slightly less effective from a distance while distinguishing him from Dynamike.

img_5780Crow

  • Decreased Super Jump speed by 20%

Crow was a bit faster than they had intended to, killing his enemies rather quickly thanks to his Super. This decrease in his jump should make him slightly easier to counter.

Related imageTara

  • Increased Super damage from 560 > 800

According to Supercell, Tara’s Super damage was too low. Maybe they don’t realize people don’t send Tara’s Super by itself.

img_0163Shelly

  • Decreased Star Power slowdown from 3.0 > 2.5 seconds

According to Supercell, her Star Power was a bit strong. With this .5 second decrease, she should be slightly less deathly.

Event Balance

Heist – The increased viability of melee tanks like Bull and El Primo affected the meta, and caused a slight advantage for attackers. Therefore, all maps got an increase to the safe’s health, except for G.G. Corral.

Robo Rumble – People were just breaking the record too often.

  • Increased health of second and third bosses
  • Map adjustment to make luring enemy bots together impossible

The good news is that Robo Rumble is now more challenging! Yay…

Bounty and Smash & Grab – In certain maps, the meta has shifted towards favoring long-range Brawlers. Therefore, there were level adjustments to Cabbage Patch, Mushroom Cave, Bone Box, and Terracotta Square to allow short ranged Brawlers to shine.

Our Verdict

These changes are a valid attempt to balance the game more, and although it manages to do so to some extent, it fails to bring back the underdogs like Nita, Jessie, and Poco.
